Director's Cut
For those who demand high performance from a camcorder, but can’t break the bank on a professional model, the ultracompact Panasonic PV-GS70 is one sharp shooter.
The first Panasonic camcorder priced under $1,000 to feature a three-CCD camera system, the PV-GS70 separates the color spectrum into red, green, and blue for digital processing and faithful color reproduction, with up to 510 lines of horizontal resolution.
The PV-GS70 uses a Leica Dicomar lens (one of the best in the business), a 1.23-megapixel digital still camera, 10X optical and 700X digital zoom, and a 2.5-inch color LCD. To reproduce natural skin tones, the camcorder features a Soft Skin Detail function, which softens the focus to create a realistic blend.
The camcorder features a built-in USB SD memory card reader/writer and a FireWire interface. The price has yet to be determined.
